bio

Jessica Maffia is a fine artist and arts educator. She earned a BA from Vassar College in sociology and Latin-American
studies and an MS in education as a Teaching Fellow at CCNY. The desire to create out of the spontaneity of play informs
her tendency to combine disparate elements in her work. She uses found objects in conjunction with her own photographs,
drawings, and myriad other media to create assemblages that give everyday objects new meaning. She currently teaches
literacy through the arts in schools throughout New York City.
